*** SEE THE APBA GOLD CUP RACE ON SPEED CHANNEL THIS SUNDAY!
Don't miss the upcoming showing of the Chrysler Jeep Superstores
APBA Gold Cup race on SPEED Channel this weekend! Tune in Sunday
September 14th at 2:00 PM (Eastern) for all the action.
*** A TENTATIVE DATE FOR THE 2004 GOLD CUP HAS BEEN SELECTED!
The tentative date for the 2004 Gold Cup is July 15-18th. The
Chrysler Jeep Superstores Dealers will return as our title
sponsor. Stay tuned - more details later as we make plans for
the Centennial APBA Gold Cup Celebrations!
*** THE J. LEE SCHOENITH MEMORIAL AWARD GOES TO .. DAVE VILLWOCK
The J. Lee Schoenith Memorial Trophy is awarded to the boat with
the fastest overall time, as a historic nod to the way the Gold
Cup winner was determined in years past. This year, the winner
is Dave Villwock and the Miss Budweiser team. Interestingly, in
recent years the opposite has happened as well ... Dave won the
race but not the JLS award.
*** NATE BROWN TO DRIVE THE REPAIRED U-8/LLUMAR AT SAN DIEGO
The U-8 Racing Team and several hard working volunteers have been
working day and night to repair the tremendous damage suffered
when Mark Evans blew over in the Detroit Gold Cup Race on August
24th, 2003. The boat sustained major fractures in several places
to the hull and frame, which required the replacement of most of
the deck. See the full press release on the HydroProp web site:

*** LETTER FROM TOM D'EATH TO ALL DRRA MEMBERS
September 12,2003
To all DRRA members:
As Judy and I pack our bags and turn our car toward our Florida
home, I have to reflect on the events of the last 8 weeks and
shake my head in amazement.
Who would have thought that the 2003 Gold Cup regatta, which was
literally dead in the water on July the 7th, would be up and
running on August 22nd - 24th.
I don't have to tell you what a great race the city of Detroit
and its many visitors enjoyed on that memorable weekend.
And I probably don't have to tell you what an accomplishment it
was to go from zero to hero in that short period of time.
What I do have to tell you is thanks, from the bottom of my heart.
To say that we couldn't have done it without you is an under-
statement.
Obviously great sponsors like the Chrysler-Jeep Superstores,
Anheuser-Busch, Sindbads, the Roostertail, Authorized Cellular,
the Omni Hotel, DTE Energy and others provide the financial and
logistics support to stage the regatta, but the fact of the
matter is, it is each and every one of you who make the event
possible.
Without you, there could be no Detroit APBA Gold Cup Regatta...
and for that every race fan in the world should be thankful to
you.
I know I am.
Thanks again. I look forward to working with all of you again
next year.
Regards,
Tom D'Eath
