*** VINTAGE RACE BOAT PARTICIPANTS - CALL FOR LETTERS OF INTENT

Press Release from Tom & Judy D'Eath - 11/13/2003

Please note that this will be the 100th Anniversary of the Gold Cup, and we are expecting an abundance of requests for Vintage participation.

Because space will be at a premium, we must make this an "Invitational" Vintage event. Therefore, there is a need for "letters of intent" and a selection process. The deadline for your letter of intent is December 31, 2003.

As of now the schedule calls for testing on Friday, July 16th, and Vintage heats on Saturday and Sunday. We will have a better take on the schedule as we get closer to the event and have our sponsors for various events all lined up.

So, if you are interested in participating, please visit the Vintage Participants website for more information: http://www.nhbm.org/Detroit-2004.htm

*** ART ASBURY, CANADA'S FASTEST MAN ON WATER, PASSES AWAY

Thursday, November 13, 2003

The racing career of Canada's fastest man on the water, Art Asbury, ended today when he failed to answer the starter's gun for this, his final race. Art set the World Water Speed Record of 184.54 mph on November 1, 1957. This still stands as a Canadian Water Speed Record today; forty-six years, a record in itself!

Art had been in declining health for the last few years.

His final request has been honoured. He was cremated and a private memorial service will be held to celebrate his life.

Among those who mourn his passing are his wife, Eloise; step- children Charlotte (Ben), Charles (Joyce), Bill (Sharon); step- grandchildren Randy (Christine), Shannon (Brian), John, Daniel, Janice, Chad, Dean, Shannon, Kevin, Amber and Justin; step-great grandchildren Cheyenna, Keanyn, Tara, Kieran, Brennan and Jadyn; nephew Chuck and Shannon Boothby.

Art is survived by his sister Lorraine Willis and predeceased by his parents, James and Annie, brother Victor, sisters Janet, Nellie and Mary along with his step-daughter, Mauri.

Anyone wishing to check out the achievements of this great man should look on http://www.geocities.com/artasbury/index.html The next-to-last photo page (Part 13) features a beautiful shot of Art on his record-breaking run. What a roostertail!!
